Why is firefox 4.0 so slow

I have automatically been sending crash reports with the 4. Still crashes whenever hit the "clear all previous history" button. If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile be careful not to copy corrupted files See:. Nevertheless, versions 4. That never happened with versions prior to 4. Open Letter to Mozilla, When is a fix coming for 4. I just went to the page to download 3.

How can anyone truly recommend that? I have used Firefox in the past for many, many years What happened, you guys??? Please fix. Or I'll need to switch back to Safari. I tried disabling it and the problem still seems to occur. It's likely that stumbleupon could be causing the issue, since the toolbar isn't compatible with the new firefox , I disabled it now, and so far the memory usage has been reasonable and I notice no slow downs.

Posted Mar Thu 17th am Ha. You shouldn't give a damn about which add-on is compatible and which one not. If a "incompatible" untested add-on does seem to work in FF4 , often enough it works fine. Just because an add-on has been tested on the current version, doesn't mean it won't cause memory leaks.

The new profile suggestion is fine, but try to disable all, but the most essential security add-ons first. Posted Mar Thu 17th pm everyone who have memory leaks just use - Memory Fox 5. Posted Mar Thu 17th pm My suggestion is going back to b12, believe it or not, it works for me, and tabs look better. Posted Mar Thu 17th pm there is a setting for this do not use -1 it is wrongly set if i recall in some situation find your proper setting then set firefox to it! Not that any builds after beta10 have been great with memory usage but now I also notice UI slowness.

For example the other day I had about 10 tabs open at cisco. I kept having to restart the browser in order make it responsive again. Even typing in text boxes was laggy. Viewed 1k times. Why is it so slow?

Is it something on my part? Or is Firefox just that slow to open? Improve this question. Depending on your extensions it might just take a while. Do you have the same extensions on your Windows machine? If so, that might not be the cause, but the more extensions I add to FF, the slower it has always become for me.

Which is why I use another browser for daily work. Is there a reason you're running such an old build of FF? The most recent builds versions Well it's a 3. I want my 4. Anyone know? It seems to be getting worse! When I have Live Messenger up, it and I click on google to find an image, it can take 8 seconds for the page to even appear--yikes. Even when Messenger is not up I was looking up stock information, and I'd open one news item in a pop-up and then a second--it would take 30 seconds for the second to open--huh?

I for the first time in many years opened IE, I could open, on the same site window after window, each in less than one second? There is ! I'm just amazed. Guys and gals - what is being done about the slowness with the latest version for FF? The rest just change channels. Let us know whats up. Hey folks, see what the dev team says above. And remove one plug in at time Speed is awesome again on FF 4.

Thank you Dev Team!!! I am still using 3. I am truly shocked at how slow FF4. I've been using Firefox since Version 1 and this is the first time I've been really, really disappointed It's completely unusable at this speed.
