How do you clean oilcloth




















The main culprits being tomato base or curry sauces. Just like getting them out of clothes, we have had customers tell us that leaving it direct sunlight for a few hours or longer has helped lighten and even remove stains like tomato sauce. It contains active bleach which when sprayed and left on for a few hours, can help lift stains from the surface.

Just remember to test in a small area first. This works great for grease and ink marks. Just pour a bit on to some tissue or a cloth and rub in to the affected area. Repeat until clean. Tomato and carrot based sauces, bolognaise, black and blueberries, felt tip pens, curries and red wine are some of the common culprits. Add an enthusiastic, messy toddler into the mix and the potential for some staining is unfortunately higher….

Sunlight — whilst leaving your oilcloth in the sun for too long can cause it to fade, leaving the oilcloth outside one sunny afternoon will often fade stubborn pasta sauce stains. Bicarbonate of Soda — make up a paste with some water, rub gently onto the stain. Take the coat outdoors on a hot day. Expose it to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, if possible.

Let the sun heat the coat to make it supple. Dip a cloth into the oilskin wax and apply it to the outside of the coat.

Work it into the coat, using a circular motion. Apply the wax, using the cloth and a hair dryer if you do not live where it is sunny and warm. Heat the specific area of the coat with the hair dryer and wipe the wax onto the heated area.
